Testing Mate Choice Hypotheses in a Transitional Small Scale Population

چکیده
Abstract Objective Tests of theories mate choice often rely on data gathered in White, industrialised samples and this is especially the case for studies facial attraction. Our understanding preferences sexual dimorphism currently flux a number hypotheses require testing more diverse participant samples. The current study uses opportunistically preference from 271 participants rural Nicaragua, 40 national capital Managua. We assess pre-registered drawn selection theory, recent approaches which consider impacts economic development cultural ‘modernisation’ preferences. Methods Participants verbally reported demographic data, indicated five male female pairs faces manipulated to differ sexually dimorphic structure based sample Salvadoran individuals. Results While urban showed feminine faces, was not evident participants. Neither nor any directional masculinised/feminised faces. Furthermore, there no support other hypothesis. Conclusions results are consistent with previous showing interest less globally-acculturated, or market integrated, populations. Together, suggests that while may be subject systematically varying amongst some low-fertility, populations, it feature likely have been important ancestral call further work attempting replicate well known phenomena

Multiple Hypotheses Testing in Small Microarray Experiments
The approach of controlling the false discovery rate (FDR) which is less conservative than controlling the family wise error rate (FWER) has become a new and popular multiple testing procedure in microarray studies. In addition to multiple testing problems the limitation of sample size is another big challenge in this area. This thesis addresses the problem of multiple testing in the context of...
متن کاملTesting sequential patterns in human mate choice using speed-dating
Choosing appropriate mates from the sequential stream of possible partners we encounter over time is a crucial and challenging adaptive problem. But getting data on mate search is also challenging. Speed-dating provides an accelerated microcosm of such data which we can use to test models of sequential mate search. Here we use such data to assess search heuristics including fixed threshold mode...
متن کاملPartial Knowledge in Multiple-Choice Testing
The intent of this study was to discover the nature of (partial) knowledge as estimated by the multiple-choice (MC) test method. An MC test of vocabulary, including 20 items, was given to 10 participants. Each examinee was required to think aloud while focusing on each item before and while making a response. After each test taker was done with each item, s/he was ...
متن کاملTesting fuzzy hypotheses with vague data
The problem of testing fuzzy hypotheses in the presence of vague data is considered. A new method based on the necessity index of strict dominance (NSD) is suggested. An example hoe to apply the proposed test in statistical quality control is shown.

If you are interested in the diversity of life, you can not ignore the plethora of striking behaviors and morphologies that have been the handiwork of sexual selection. The peacock’s tail is one emblematic result, but a compendium would also include: the songs of birds, frogs, and crickets, the brilliant colors of fishes and corals, the complex odors of moths and mustelids, and the differences ...
